The French Society of Egyptology, created in Paris by Egyptologists, is a learned society that will celebrate its Centenary in 2023!!
The wish of the founding members was to " bring together Egyptologists and people interested in the study of Egypt from its origins to the first centuries of the Hegira in order to allow them to exchange their views on all questions concerning Egypt, to maintain relations both with scholars from other countries and with the French public uninitiated in Egyptology and to publish works relating to these studies..." Today's Egyptologists see things no differently: the association offers its members the opportunity to come and meet the scientists at the origin of discoveries that are often spectacular and always of great interest for the discipline.
Three meetings per year , followed by a friendly drink, allow specialists from all over the world to come and present their work in progress and their recent discoveries, in French; these meetings (relayed by video) are now supplemented by videoconferences, the dates of which are inserted between these moments of conviviality.
The minutes of meetings and the complete text of the lectures are published in the two annual issues of the Bulletin of the French Society of Egyptology ( BSFE ).).
The Society also publishes the Revue d'egyptologie ( RdE ), one issue per year. Seen as a reference work in the discipline, the RdE has an international outlook and offers around twenty articles per issue by researchers in specialized and varied fields such as linguistics, philology, archeology, art history and historiography. .
Finally, from time to time the SFE offers its members visits to exhibitions and museums devoted to Egyptian civilization, as well as trips guided by first-class specialists.
