PAST VISITS

– Monday, February 13, 2023: the SFE benefited from an exceptional private visit to the Dream of Egypt exhibition at the Rodin Museum in Paris. Welcomed by Mrs. Bénédicte Garnier, curator of the exhibition, we were able to take advantage of her erudition and quietly admire the Egyptian works, also seeing them through Rodin's eyes. Our guide explained to us particularly well the bias of the exhibition: the matching of the work of the sculptor and the antiques he collected.

– On Wednesday January 11, 2023, SFE members had the pleasure of visiting the C hampollion exhibition. The path of hieroglyphs at the Louvre-Lens museum. We had the honour of listening, on this occasion, to the presentation of the exhibits accompanied by thought-provoking comments by Mr. Vincent Rondot, general curator of the exhibition.

– On Friday June 3 and Saturday June 4, 2022, two visits to the Louvre Pharaoh of the Two Lands exhibition. The African epic of the kings of Napata fascinated those of our members who were able to make the trip. In particular, we were able to benefit from the detailed explanations of Mr. Vincent Rondot, curator of the exhibition and specialist in this booming discipline of studies on Nubia and Sudan.

– From April 22 to July 9, 2022, the SFE had the pleasure of organizing 6 tours of the L'aventure Champollion exhibition. In the secret of hieroglyphs, as part of the exhibition held at the BnF in connection with the Bicentenary of Deciphering. All these visits benefited from a tour with commentary by one of the three curators of the exhibition: Ms. Guillemette Andreu-Lanoë, Ms. Vanessa Desclaux and Ms. Hélène Virenque.

– Wednesday, June 20, 2018: The French Society of Egyptology organized a visit to the Egyptian collections of the Tessé museum in Le Mans in the company of Ms. Hélène Bouillon, heritage curator, and Mr. Frédéric Payraudeau, lecturer at the Sorbonne. In the 600 m²  basement, those members who were present had the privilege of seeing life-size reconstructions of the tombs of Queen Nefertari, great royal wife of Pharaoh Ramses II (c. 1250 BC) and of Sennefer, governor of Thebes under Amenhotep II (c. 1420 BC). These two sets that are visible alongside the Egyptian collections are unique to France and were designed using a set of photographs taken by the Kodak-Pathé Foundation and donated to the museum in 1988.
